I’ve been a longtime Dunkin’ Original Blend drinker, so I wasn’t sure what to expect from a lighter roast. After brewing Atomic Coffee Roasters’ Moonwalk, I can honestly say this has become one of my favorite light roasts.
The roast is exactly what a light roast should be—bright and light in color without tasting weak or watery. It’s incredibly flavorful from the first sip to the last. Atomic lists the tasting notes as apricot, vanilla, and pastry crust. I’ve never been great at identifying individual tasting notes in coffee, but whatever combination they’ve created works extremely well. The cup has a pleasant sweetness, smooth finish, and much more depth of flavor than I expected from such a light roast.
For anyone interested in my brewing method, here’s what produced an outstanding cup:
* Brewer: AeroPress (inverted method)
* Coffee: 30 grams
* Water: 500 grams
* Water Temperature: 202°F
* Grind: Breville Smart Grinder Pro, setting 40
* Total Brew Time: Approximately 2 minutes 45 seconds
I slowly poured the water over the grounds, attached the filter cap, flipped the AeroPress onto my server, gave it a gentle swirl, and finished with a slow, even press.
Compared to Dunkin’ Original Blend—which I’d consider a very light medium roast—Moonwalk is slightly lighter but somehow delivers even more flavor and complexity. It’s smooth, easy to drink, and never bitter.
If you’re already a fan of light roasts, I think you’ll love this coffee. And if you’re someone like me who normally drinks a medium roast but wants to explore lighter coffees without sacrificing flavor, Moonwalk is an excellent place to start.
★★★★★ Highly recommended.
