Gera Estate is an extremely sweet light roast, berry and mango up front with a floral note that carries through the finish. The heirloom varietal and 1,900 meter elevation give it lively acidity, while the natural process handles the sweetness. After harvest, the cherries dry slowly on raised beds with the whole fruit still around the seed, and all that time in the fruit shows up in the cup.
The estate sits at extreme altitude in Djimma, in western Ethiopia, where cool temperatures and nitrogen-rich soil produce dense, expressive beans. The farm grows organically, no chemical fertilizers or insecticides, and takes care of its people in a way few farms anywhere do. Every employee receives housing, childcare and education, clean drinking water, electricity, and healthcare, all free of charge. That's a big part of why we've bought this coffee three years running.
If you lean toward light-bodied naturals, this one is squarely for you. Brew it as a pourover to get the most out of the florals.
